“Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn.”

There are so many amazing opportunities around Memphis in which to get involved and impact our amazing city! Here at SOUL, we love to share some of these opportunities and this time will be focused on some provided by STREETS Ministries.
Situated in some of Memphis’ toughest neighborhoods, STREETS Ministries is dedicated to providing the staff and programming to engage, encourage, and empower students who live in underserved communities. STREETS reaches out to over 1,200 underserved students with the goal of providing them the opportunity to see, hear, and respond to the Good News of the Gospel, while empowering them to live a life of obedience to God. STREETS’ Pathways program was recently spotlighted on Memphis’ Local 24 News. Reporter Kelli Cook, gave a great look at one of the ways that STREETS empowers its students and how it hopes to impact the city that it serves.
At its core, Pathways is an education based mentorship program that looks to pair a volunteer mentor with a middle school or high school student to work one-on-one through a curriculum which focuses on specific goal-oriented objectives, as well as providing accountability, support and cultural exposure. Each pair meets at least once a week, but the goal of Pathways is that a deeper relationship between the mentor and student is formed through recreational, academic and spiritual involvement.
Thanks to Local 24 News for a great spotlight on our city and to STREETS Ministries for providing the opportunity to engage, encourage and empower the amazing students that walk through their doors in our wonderful city.
